Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a unexampled thatrepresents society and its components in a tale about achildren stranded on an island. Of the group there are twowho penury to lead the boys for the duration of their stay, oneof which is diddlyshit Merridew. Although he doesnt throw off anypower at the beginning of the novel, he took every run acrosshe had to try to take the position of chief which he in the endgot. He ruled with an iron fist, allowing no one to questionhim or his attractionship. Jack represented the wanting for asingle, all powerful leader to guide the followers of societyusing any means he feels necessary. Golding grew up during a time when he was taught tobelieve that cosmos was goodly at heart. Books like Tarzan, andCoral island showed him that it was indeed society that wasevil and that man was good at heart. These rulings weredemonstrated in some of his earlier writing, exactly that changedafter his experiences in the war. After Golding retur ned fromWWII, he had a different view on man. He saw a lot ofaction and conclusion during his time with the navy, and thisinfluenced his beliefs on man quite drastically. The massdestruction and cleanup pushed him to think that man can beevil, selfish and power hungry. Jack spawned out of thesebeliefs. Jack was a very power hungry recent boy. He liked to be incommand of things and when he wasnt, he tried to puthimself into that position. This desire for power was shownthroughout the novel, as was the detail that he loved attentionthat accompanied it. He loved to be the centre of attentionand would do anything to boost himself above other people. To fixate him more evil, he was not able to conceal any ofthese characteristics, he had to let them loose.Upon the arrival of the boys to the island Jack was put in themiddle of a power struggle. Although the conflict was brief, there was still a very frank confrontation between Jackand Ralph. Once the boys had assembled themselves there was an election to converge who was to be chief. Dispite the factthat Ralph was voted leader, the wanting to be in command neer left Jack, not for a minute. He already had some leading skills, being head choir boy at his old school, and felt that he should be leader and continuously challengedRalph. Among several things they argued about, the mostparkland was the debate over the fire.
